Vilander in a winning streak
Toni Vilander and Dirk Müller maintained their victorious streak with Ferrari 430 in the FIA GT2 championship series.
The Finnish driver had his first visit to the legendary Silverstone circuit in this weekend. The tight fight for the lead with two Ferraris of Team AS Corse finished while the car of Gianmaria Bruni and Jaime Melo crashed out.
Vilander and Müller are now leading the championship with maximum points after two first races.
The more experienced German took care of the qualifying lap on Saturday and drove the first and last stints of the race. Vilander made a consistent and punctual job like a Swiss watchmaker in the middle stint of 42 minutes.
- We choose a different tactics compared to our competitors. We took the hardest compound, which is not fast in qualifying, but suits well for this kind of a race in this kind of a circuit, Vilander summorized.
- The car was going well all the time. It was a good fight with the other Ferrari. When they stopped, the rest was just cruising home.
- While the circuit was strange for me and I did not get that much of practice laps, it was important not to try and rage too much. I just concentrated on going as smoothly and consistent as I possibly could, Vilander described his performance.
The next race will be in two weeks time in a street circuit in Bucharest in Romania.
- That is going to be a new track for every driver, so there will be no handycap for me, Vilander thanked.
After two victories Müller and Vilander will get as much as 68 kilos of extra weight in their Ferrari for the next race.
