Vilander started FIA GT2 season in a winning way
Toni Vilander started his season by winning FIA GT2 class in chinese Zhuhai circuit - more or less like stealthily. Vilander is racing for Italian Team AF Corse. The Finn teams up with German Dirk Müller in Ferrari 430.
The pair started from the pole position of GT2 class. They were not able to control the lead because of two messy safety car situations during the race. The Porsche driven by Emmanuel Collard and Matteo Malucelli managed to overtake the Ferrari while changing tyres and kept the lead until the chequered flag.
In the end of the day the winning GT2 car was measured to be too low and it was so disqualified from the results. That meant that Vilander and Müller were confirmed as winners of the Zhuhai race.
- There was such a mess with the safety car coming in twice and then with changing the tyres. So there is no reason to wonder why we lost the lead.
- But it was great to race again after such a long break. And it is always the best possible start, while you manage to win the opening race of the new season, Vilander praised.
The poletaker Müller drove two stints while Vilander took care of the middle one of 40 minutes.
Next round of FIA GT championship in scheduled for May in Silverstone.
